Pioneer Faith

Pioneer Faith is a comprehensive history of Missionary Baptist churches and associations in Arkansas until 1920.

The first chapter established the roots of Arkansas Baptists from Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina, and details how we came to be known as Missionary Baptists.

The second chapter relates the establishment of the first churches in Arkansas.

Following those chapters are the histories of 25 local associations, over 300 churches, biographical sketches, and pictures of churches organized before 1862.

The final section of Pioneer Faith includes the history of the State Association of Missionary Baptist Churches, Early Leaders in the State Association (W. A. Clark, Ben M. Bogard, W. H. Paslay, and M. P. Metheny), Texarkana Baptist Orphanage, Missionary Baptist College (Sheridan) and a critique of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.

History of the
Pine Bluff Missionary Baptist Association

     The Pine Bluff Association is a fellowship of Missionary Baptist Churches in the Arkansas Counties of Grant, Jefferson, Saline and Pulaski.

     The history gives a detailed account of church activities in the area from 1836 until the Association was organized in 1861.

     Then follows a history of the Association and its churches, including approximately 200 photographs of churches, pastors, missionaries, etc.

     The book also includes a chapter of the former member churches of the Association and a comprehensive history of the Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock.
